Important Information

PE days for each class:

5FI - Wednesday

5IM - Thursday

5KS - Friday

Please make sure your child wears their PE kit to school on their PE day. This should include a white top, black bottoms (leggings, jogging bottoms or shorts) and trainers. They should also wear their school jumper and bring a coat. They should have their hair tied up and should not wear any jewellery.

Homework:

Children should read their Accelerated Reader book daily for 20–30 minutes. They will be set class and maths group homework on Friday. Class homework includes next week’s spelling list and reading vocabulary, and a P4C task for children to discuss with family and to record responses. Maths homework includes arithmetic questions and a reasoning activity based on the week’s learning.

Reading:

Children have the opportunity to read and develop a love of books at St Margaret’s through daily reading sessions, Accelerated Reader (AR), story time sessions and home reading books, as well as across the curriculum.

The Year 5 story time texts for this half-term are:

  • Autumn 1 – Granny & The Falcon’s Malteser by Anthony Horrowitz
  • Autumn 2 – Wonder by R. J. Palacio
  • Spring 1 – Beowulf by Michael Morpurgo
  • Spring 2 – The Brilliant World of Tom Gates by Liz Pichon
  • Summer 1 – The Arrival by Shaun Tan and Illegal by Eoin Colfer and Andrew Donkin
  • Summer 2 – Street Child by Berlie Doherty

It is important that your child brings their reading book into school each day and that children read at home on a daily basis. It is expected that at least one quiz is taken a week – books can only be changed if an AR quiz has been passed for that book.
