St Margaret's Church of England Primary School
House Point system
At St Margaret's, every pupil and staff member is assigned to a House upon starting at school. The House System is designed to embody the values and ethos of our school and is an integral part of our school community.
We believe the House System, along with other ambassador roles, empowers our pupils to have a meaningful voice in school-wide decision-making.
One of its greatest strengths is the opportunity it provides for pupils of all ages to work together. This creates a cohesive environment where friendships and collaboration thrive, regardless of age.
Our House System also strengthens connections between pupils and staff, fostering a sense of belonging. It encourages interaction across year groups, from the youngest to the most senior members of our school, while nurturing a friendly competitive spirit.
Earning House Points
Students can earn House Points for various achievements, including:
- Outstanding learning
- Fabulous progress
- Improvement in specific areas of work or behaviour
- Making good behaviour choices
- Displaying kindness
- Being polite
- Reflecting Christian values
- Helping others
- Following school rules
Each week, the house with the highest number of points is declared the weekly winner. The house that wins the most weekly points in a term will be named the termly champion.
At the end of the school year, the house with the highest overall points will be awarded the shield and a group prize.
Meet our house captains
The House system allows for the promotion of student’s responsibility, “giving pupils the chance to learn and develop leadership skills is an outstanding benefit” (Tongue, 2016).
The House Captains hone their leadership skills through their role, gaining valuable experience in managing their peers while also developing the ability to 'manage up' by interacting and coordinating effectively with the staff body.
