What pupils think...
I really enjoy learning Spanish. This year I have learned to tell the time, colours and the names of pets - Year 4 pupil.
We don't just learn about Spain but also other countries that speak Spanish such as Mexico and Cuba. Spanish is spoken on nearly every continent - Year 6 pupil
It's important to learn another language so you can communicate with others if you go on holiday - Year 5 pupil
I liked learning how to describe the weather in Spanish. We worked in groups to produce a weather report to show the weather in Spain. It was fun - Year 3 pupil
I find it interesting to learn about how Spanish is different to English. In Spanish they have different genders for nouns but we don't have that in English. They also put the adjective after nouns - Year 5 pupil

Scheme of Work
Our Spanish scheme of work is knowledge-based but we have placed skills at the heart of our language teaching so children are able to speak, listen, read and write in Spanish. Our Spanish curriculum is enhanced by performances, displays and assemblies.
Learning Spanish is important to us at St Margaret’s. We have gone further than the requirements of the National Curriculum to build schemes of work that are ambitious but give our children a global perspective, for example, we look at a range of countries whose main language is Spanish.
The priority for our children is reading, language and vocabulary development. The scheme of work has been designed and planned to give children the knowledge and skills that they need for later life such as: questioning, problem solving, freethinking, resilience, confidence and presenting skills and curiosity. Children will also be introduced to grammar and punctuation in the Spanish language.
In Spanish, we have identified clear end points at the end of each unit. The scheme has been carefully sequenced to enable our children to know more and remember more. There is a great deal of repetition to help pupils to retain knowledge and skills.

Our curriculum is still being worked on so progression ladders may be updated/adapted
