To gather the resources needed to participate in an activity.

To explore different parts of the school such as the reception classrooms and the field.

To feel confident separating from their key person when exploring a new place.

To know what they like and dislike and be able to express a reason for why, using the word because.

Communication and Language

To know that the past is something that has already happened.

To know that the present is what is happening now.

To know that the future is something that is going to happen.

To be able to listen to new information and retain it so that they can follow a longer instruction e.g. Get your coat and line up by the door.

Physical Development

To be able to identify obstacles that they need to move around.

To name a variety of body parts.

To use scissors safely and precisely, cutting around curved lines.

To use a range of mark making tools to achieve a desired effect.

To have a comfortable pencil grip which enables them to control their pencil.

To know which letters are in their name and to write them intelligibly. 

Knowledge and Understanding of the World

To know what an animal is.

To know that some people have pets that they take care of.

To know about a variety of different places where animals live e.g. the jungle, the ocean, the farm.

To notice some different features of animals e.g. if an animal has feathers, fur or scales

Expressive Arts and Design

To know which expressions are associated with which emotions e.g. crying and sadness, smiling and happiness.

To know which colours can be associated with emotions e.g. red with anger.

To have a repertoire of songs that they adapt e.g. using their own name within a song or changing ‘Old MacDonald’ to be about a jungle/ an ocean.

To know what they want to create and to make a plan for how to do so.
